Raw material

SMI’s operational structure SMI is organized to respond efficiently to any Just in Time request of the market starting

from the raw material procurement. Their large warehouse stocks the most commonly used types of metals utilized

in mechanical engineering: steels, special steels, stainless steels and other non-ferrous metals.

Steel works

The steel works department is one of the major factors of satisfaction of a SMI customer. The high crane lifting capacity, the large spaces available and the great experience in the welding technologies of many different metals permit large sized structures with high precision.

Cad-cam

The operating machines and machining centers of SMI are all connected in a network, enabling the CAD-CAM program- ming permitting the direct and immediate transfer of the programs developed to the operating machinery, with con- siderable time saving and reduction of errors.

Cutting lines

The important dimensions of machines used for metal cutting are such as to manage both small and medium-sized products, for internal orders, but large products as well, for third party commitments.

SPARK EROSION - EDM

This technology is utilized for processing metals with a very high hardness and with extreme precision. With the wire EDM machinery, SMI is able to build very complex shapes that are impossible to obtain by means of any other process.

GRINDING

The grinding department is equipped with machines for surface grinding, cylindrical grinding external and internal grinding. The machines of the latest generation can work components of up to 6000 mm in length in the case of surface grinding, with the possibility of correcting different inclined surfaces in one run only. HEAT TREATEMENT

The network of highly experienced suppliers with whom SMI has an active partnership since many years and permits to obtain a variety of different heat treatments on all kinds of metals, whether they are needed during the working cycle or in the final phase, including galvanic treatments or those obtained by welding.

Painting

To complete the in-house manufacturing phases of their ma- chines and work cells, SMI has its own department for paint- ing, mostly used for coloring the various components used in the machine manufacture, for both standard and special colors requested by customers.

Assembling

SMI’s experience in the construction of automatic machines, permits, in addition to the construction of components, to supply machines or parts of them, their assembly according to customer’s specifications and eventual assembly on site, working in respect of norms and regulations.

QUALITY CONTROL AND FINAL TEST

The advanced technological instrumentation for quality and dimensional control, permits SMI to detect and provide certifications also for particularly large components, thanks to polar coordinate measuring machines, as well as traditional instruments. All control machines and equipment follow a rigorous and regular calibration control verified by authorized organizations.
